AudioLab Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 23, 2026

AudioLab is a browser extension for adjusting audio from the active tab. When you open the extension popup, AudioLab automatically starts processing audio from that tab at your saved volume (100% by default). You can stop processing at any time. AudioLab does not send audio, page addresses, settings, or usage data to its developer or to third parties.

Information AudioLab handles

When you open AudioLab, it reads the active tab’s address to identify its hostname and check whether the page can be processed. Audio capture starts automatically when the popup opens, and stops when you press Stop or close or reload the active tab. Captured audio is processed locally in the browser with the Web Audio API. It is not recorded or saved, uploaded, or transmitted.

During installation, the browser asks for tabs and favicon permissions so AudioLab can display the titles, website hostnames, and site icons of tabs currently producing audio. While the popup is open, AudioLab checks which tabs are marked as audible and uses their tab details only to populate the Active audio list. These details are not saved or transmitted. You can revoke these permissions in the browser’s extension settings; doing so prevents AudioLab from showing tab titles and icons.

If Save separate settings for this site is enabled, AudioLab stores that site’s hostname and audio preferences in the browser’s local extension storage. AudioLab also stores your most recent preferences locally so they can be restored. While processing is active, the current tab identifier and hostname are held temporarily in extension memory.

How information is used

The active tab address is used only to check page support and select that site’s saved preferences. Captured audio is used only to apply the controls you choose, such as volume, equalization, balance, mono playback, and dialogue leveling. The optional soft limiter is off by default.

Sharing and retention

AudioLab has no analytics, advertising, or remote servers and does not share this information. Audio exists only in the active processing stream and is not retained. Saved preferences remain in your browser until changed or cleared, or until you remove the extension. Turning off site-specific saving removes the saved profile for the current site; your latest preferences may still be kept locally so AudioLab can restore them.
